HazMat Products Government Shipping Regulations
Must be Observed
Many years ago, United Stationers realized the significant opportunity presented by
many "facility supply" items, which take you beyond the office into the
backrooms of the accounts you are now calling on. Some of these items include cleaners,
stain removers, hand cleaners, soaps, etc. They are featured in Uniteds General Line
Catalog, Facility Supplies Catalog, and various flyers.
Some of these items as well as many traditional office supplies such as
correction fluids, and newer computer supply items, such as liquid and compressed air
computer cleaners are classified as "HazMat" (Hazardous Materials) by the
U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT). As a result, they are subject to special shipping
regulations.
IMPORTANT NOTE: The HazMat Product List is often updated due to changes in the law as well as
changes to our product offering.
United Stationers takes care in observing the DOT regulations in shipments of these
items directly to you or drop-shipments to your customers. However, you must also take
care to observe these regulations if you re-ship these products or return them to United. If
you re-ship or return to United in Uniteds original carton, with the original labels
and markings still in tact, the process of observing these regulations can be greatly
simplified.
